It would probably be best to check with a veterinarian before giving her anything. I’ve heard that you can give dogs melatonin to ease anxiety, but I don’t remember who I heard it from and I’ve never tried it. A vet can tell you what will work, and the correct dosage (remember, just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s safe).

Poor baby. Yes at the health food store you can get some Rescue Remedy look it up in the internet. It will calm down your little one to ease anxiety… I used to use it to slow down my boy a bit from being sooooo excited in agility…. Cheers Bogey

given her past living conditins she stresses easily. not saying your ex groomer did anything but the dog is showing you that grooming means PAIN!!!! I have seen in the past, with my own eyes, where a cocker was being groomed in a store and they literally took something that looked like tongs , grabbed a clump of inside ear hair and twisted it until it came free. The dog was in the soundproof room, behind glass but you could plainly see that it was fighting and screaming in pain. Just because a person may be a certified groomer does not mean they are nice. your dog has suffered serious truma in it’s life.

Good for you rescuing dogs, hon. Me too. I have had 8 dobies no one wanted.

About your problem:

You might try a tranq. from the vet… Actually they will do quite well with a tranq. Dogs process it much faster than people, and that she is so difficult to groom means that now, at her age, she is never going to get used to it…. some are just that way… they don’t like the clippers, they don’t like any of it… an injectable like Valium works quite well, but they pant with it…. it is used as a pre-op drugs in dogs…. another is Rompin, both injectable, but again, talk to your vet… Your vet will be able to get you someting…. Herbs, hon, just don’t do much, sorry…..

PS. and thanks for saving her…. burns my socks off when people do that to dogs…. In my community, we put them in jail. One of the dogs I rescued was tossed from a car on an LA freeway. Some lady stopped and got him, broken leg and all, and I adopted him from a dobie rescue place…. Wonderful guy, and forever grateful….
