My Mom has thyroid problems, so I always kinda knew I’d be in line for it. And, it looks like I do, too.
I had always had regular cycles, clockwork. I went on Mircette (birth control) shortly before I got married and was on it for about 2 1/2 years. About 8 months ago I stopped taking it since we thought we might like to try for a baby. December had a regular period and I figured my body picked up where it left off before the pills. Then, nothing. 6 months have gone by and not one period.
So, I went to my gynecologist who had a blood test done. She said I have high thyroid levels. I’m taking Provera now to stimulate a period to start and am going to give my body a while longer to see if my cycles regulate. If not, then it’s off to my general practitioner for a follow up on the thyroid thing.
I hadn’t really thought about the weight gain as anything other than being too darn lazy to exercise, but even with the all the walking I do, I shouldn’t weigh as much as I do. We’ll see what happens.
Hypothyroid definitely can affect weight gain. It is harder to lose weight as we age due our metabolism slowing down, menopause (which isn’t a variable for you, yet) can be problematic too. I would try a different Hypothyroid pill & eating smaller portion like you’re doing will all help.
I would also start an exercise program you can stick with…
Zumba is the rage right now…it works on your core…
you didn’t mention your height~
Your weight gain seems rather extreme…
I would make sure your doc. does a variety of blood work…
to rule out anything else…

I hope your tests turn out okay.
